abilities:
Compulsion- Like any vampire Damon can control a human by looking them into the eyes. It doesn't work on other vampires and it doesn't work if the human has vervain in their system or has it on them like Elena's necklace.
Vampire Strength- As a vampire he is stronger than humans
Long Life- He will not die unless he is staked
Healing- When injured anywhere but his heart he will heal.

Damon acts like he is a very selfish vampire who only cares about himself. However this is just a guise, Damon cares for his brother very much.. he would rather sacrifice himself than let his brother die (Although he does try to hide it and is pretty good at it.)He also cares for Elena very much, he met her when he was still in love with Katherine and slowly fell out of love with her and in love with his brother's girlfriend.
He has a very snarky attitude, he loves to use sarcasm as a way to comunicate rather then real communication. He keeps up a wall to many people as to not get hurt as he has been hurt in the past. He has let a few people see his softer side one being Elena and the other being Alaric who he considered his best friend even though the two bickered very often.
Damon and his brother were both in love with Katherine in their human life. Damon knew what she was and accepted it without having been effected by compulsion. He wanted to be turned but she told him to wait. He begged his brother not to tell his father about Katherine because he knew his father wouldn't understand. When Katherine was taken Damon blamed his brother and vowed to save Katherine, while trying to rescue her he was shot by his father triggering the change into a vampire. Damon woke up as a vampire and helped Katherine's friend who was a witch save her family in return she promised to save Katherine.
Katherine and the other vampires were 'saved' being placed in a tomb under the church. Damon knew one day he would save Katherine since he loved her more than anything else. When Damon has returned to Mystic Falls to free Katherine.
